Your Cycle

Cycle stages, the Cycle prim, and early ovulation.

Who has a cycle

Only characters with a womb have a cycle. No womb means no cycle and no pregnancy, even with a vagina. If you add a womb later, your cycle starts at the beginning of Recovery.

A brand-new character starts somewhere random in Ovulate, Fertile or Recovery — never in the middle of a period.

RP days

Everything in Fertility is measured in RP days. By default one RP day is 12 real hours, so two RP days pass every real day. You can change your own day length in Dashboard → Settings → RP Timing.

Time keeps running while you are offline. When you come back, your cycle (or pregnancy) catches up to where it should be.

The four stages

StageDefault lengthWhat it means
Ovulate5 RP daysBuilding up to release an egg. Can end early — see below.
Fertile5 RP daysThe only stage where you can get pregnant.
Period5 RP daysThe Cycle prim always shows during your period.
Recovery15 RP daysThe quiet stretch before the next cycle. Always at least 1 day.

That is 30 RP days in all — about 15 real days at the default day length. Each time you move to a new stage, the HUD tells you privately: "Your cycle has advanced to: Fertile".

You can change every stage's length in Dashboard → Settings → Cycle Timing. Set Ovulate, Fertile or Period to 0 to skip that stage entirely. An admin may lock some of these settings, shown by a padlock.

Ovulating early

Ovulate does not always run its full length. There are two ways it can end early and jump straight to Fertile:

  • Each RP day in Ovulate, there is a growing chance it ends: day 1 of 5 is a 20% chance, day 2 is 40%, and so on.
  • An orgasm during Ovulate has a 10% chance to set it off. Only one orgasm every 30 minutes gets this chance.

When an orgasm does it, you get "The orgasm has triggered a cycle shift to: Fertile."

Spoiler — the asterisk

When the daily roll ends Ovulate early, there is no chat message. A single * floats over your Menu button for 20 seconds instead. If you see it, you just became fertile.

Eggs and twins

When you enter Fertile, the game decides how many eggs you release. Usually it is one. There is a small Multiple Egg Chance (2% by default) of releasing between 2 and your Max Eggs Per Cycle. Each egg can be fertilized separately, which is how you get fraternal twins. Identical twins are a separate roll — see Multiples.

Your race sets the starting values for these.

Birth control

  • Cessera Pill — each daily dose cuts your chance of conceiving by 25%. Four doses block it completely, and also make your cycle skip Fertile and Period. See Items.
  • Contraceptive implant — fitted by a doctor for 1, 3 or 6 RP months. Blocks pregnancy completely and skips Fertile and Period until it runs out. See Doctor Program.

Both also stop orgasms and the daily roll from ending Ovulate early.

Seeing your cycle

The Cycle prim on the HUD turns to show your stage. It is hidden unless you are on your period, are known to be pregnant, or have turned on Show me my cycle in Dashboard → Settings. See The Cycle prim.

Partners can get hints about your stage with Check — see Check.
